Celebrating Our 125th Anniversary
As we know and are known by God,
St. Lawrence-Newman desires to know and be known
as we celebrate our 125th anniversary.
Can you believe it, St. Lawrence Catholic Church has been ministering to the University of MN and the Twin Cities Area for 125 years? Most organization tend to run out of steam and fade away, but we are still going strong. So it's time to celebrate the legacy our present and past parishioners have gifted us and time to be exciting about planning for future.
The goal of the 125th anniversary is for parishioners, students, faculty and staff to know about St. Lawrence-Newman and for us to know each other better and our legacy and to be known by the surrounding neighborhood and university communities.
Each month we are planning some activity
to keep the spirit of celebration alive:
January 29 125th Anniversary Celebration – Opening Mass
February 4 Ice Skating Party@Van Cleve Park

March 11 Stained Glass Window Tour (after 8 & 10 am Masses)

125 Minutes of Games (all ages)
April 29 Arbor Day Tree Planting in front of our church
May 27 International Potluck
June 9 Adult Retreat
July 14 1.25 Mile Neighborhood Walk
August 25 St. Lawrence-Newman goes to the State Fair
September 15 Parish Festival and School Reunion
October 12/13 Homecoming Parade

125 Minutes of Talent
November 3 Mass and Celebration Dinner with Archbishop Nienstedt

4-7 Luke Live! Parish Mission - Fr. James DiLuzio, CSP
And throughout this 125th year, we would plan weekly tabling and celebration of the different talents within our parish (e.g., Anniversary Day for Artists, Anniversary Day for Scientist, Anniversary Day for Musicians, Anniversary Day for Athletes, Anniversary Day for Medical Folks, etc.)
Other events and activities related to the 125th anniversary include:
Parish Directory – All parishioners will receive a new parish directory and history book.
DVD- We’re archiving our old photos, updating a document on our history, and working on an anniversary video, that will be made available on a DVD.
Tree Memorabilia – We’ll be turning the wood from our fallen tree into parish memorabilia.
Memorabilia Displays – There will be ongoing displays at various times throughout the year.
Parish Cookbook – We are collecting recipes for a parish cookbook that will be available for sale beginning in the summer. Submit your favorite recipes to recipes@umncatholic.org. Deadline for recipe submission: March 1, 2012.
Consider joining our 125th Anniversary Committee to help us plan and put on the celebrations. Celebration is another thing God create us to be able to do well. We celebrate each other, we celebrate our accomplishments, we celebrate the sacraments; we celebrate the Mass, and most imortantly, we celebrate the victory of our Lord and the lov of God. Even if you are new to St. Lawrence or only here while in college, you are a reason for the celebration and your insights can help make this a celebration for everyone.
